The Chevy Chevelle: A Muscle Icon
From 1964 to 1977, Chevrolet produced three generations of the Chevelle. They offered the Chevelle in many configurations, including sedan, coupe, convertible, hardtop and station wagon. Because of Chevy’s cost-saving strategies, some Chevelle parts are compatible with the first-generation Monte Carlo. At Raybuck, we specialize in parts for the first- and second-generation Chevelles:
- – First generation (1964-1967): Chevy released the first generation of the Chevelle to compete with the Ford Fairlane. The Chevelle had a Super Sport (SS) package powered by a 300-horsepower engine. During the Chevelle’s first generation, Chevy also released the 1965 Chevelle Z16 396, which had a coveted big-block engine known for its exceptional power.
- – Second generation (1968-1972): Second-generation Chevelles had longer hoods and shorter decks than previous models. During this generation, Chevy made the SS package more widely available to consumers. The Chevelle’s performance peaked in 1970 with the LS6 upgrade that featured a 450-horsepower engine. Many movies from this time onward feature the 1970 Chevelle, making this one of the most recognizable years.
