How to Select the Right Car Rivets

• Size: Match hole diameter and load case. Follow the manufacturer’s spec for hole-to-rivet clearance to prevent fretting and elongation.
• Grip range: Aim for the middle grip range, followed by the minimum and then the maximum, to achieve the correct shear and tensile strength and ensure longevity.
• Head style: A large flange head doubles the bearing area of the dome head and offers greater coverage, while the countersunk head is level with the material for a flush finish.
• Material: Match similar metals to control galvanic corrosion. Use stainless steel for harsh environments, aluminum for light-duty applications and steel for maximum shear strength.
