Description

Silaprene Adhesive is an easy-to-use, one-part adhesive/sealant. It bonds virtually all types of metals, including aluminum, as well as fiberglass, wood, glass, plastics, masonry and concrete, and provides a permanent bond. Silaprene Adhesive/Sealant bonds body panels, body seams, roofs, etc and can be used to fasten almost anything together. This one-part adhesive gets stronger with age and won’t get brittle or crack from vibration or thermal shock. It will withstand extreme temperatures and is unaffected by highway chemicals. Silaprene is widely used by body manufacturers and is one of the most common adhesives used to bond aluminum trailers and semi sleeper cabs. It comes in a 10.3 oz caulking tube and has a six month shelf life.

When used to bond two metal panels together, for example when attaching a slip-on rocker panel, we recommend removing all paint from both surfaces where the product will be applied in order to get a strong bond. Simply apply a bead of Silaprene around the perimeter of one panel, secure it to the second surface with clamps, rivets, screws, etc and allow to cure over night (curing time will vary depending on temperature and humidity). The product strength will increase over time, but it does stay pliable since it is also a sealer. If you plan to apply any type of body filler around the perimeter of the attached panel, make sure to remove any Silaprene that may have squeezed out during application as filler will not stick to this product.

  • Gray in color – can be painted.
  • Provides excellent early strength and gets stronger with age while remaining permanently resilient.
  • Withstands vibration and thermal cycling (contraction & expansion).
  • Resists ice, snow, cold & heat from -65 to 250F.
  • Highly resistant to sunlight/UV rays, moisture & weathering – is unaffected by highway chemicals.
  • Comes in a standard, 1/10 gallon cartridge (10.3 fl oz.) and applies with ordinary caulking gun.
  • This is product M6325

This is a consumable product and is non-returnable.

Used to repair the cab corners on my 98 Ram 1500. Product works as advertised as long as you prep the surfaces as instructed. Clean off the paint, remove any residues and clamp/rivet/ screw the parts together for 24 hours. I cleaned off the excess, touched it with a grinder and applied my filler, never know the repair was made.

I haven’t used this yet but from all the reviews so far it seems like I made a great purchase. Will be used to seal up some holes in doors on my old truck.

This is a great alternative to the overpriced 3M Panel Bond Adhesives. Works extremely well.

I used this product for the first time on my 08 Silverado patch panels. I’m a rank amateur at bodywork, but the Silaprene was easy to use and I got great results.

Used it on patch panels. Remove scfews after two days and the Siliprene was holding the panel fine. Easy to work with and did a good job.

There are panel adhesives available from major manufacturers but they are all two part and require a special gun. Pick up a three dollar caulk gun from the hardware store on your way back from the post office and you are gluing panels on in 5 minutes

  9. Mike Lane

Good product and reasonably priced If air temp is on the cool side it will take a lot longer to properly cure I also used it as a seam sealer and worked great

Used on 1985 Ford Plow truck. Cut out bad and replaced bad metal. All new material – floor pans and rocker panels. Did clamp and screw where needed. Let sit 24-36 hrs before removing clamps. WOW! Where has this stuff been!
Used on 1999 Ford Ranger. Cut out bad metal, CLEANED OFF / scuffed up paint and attached plastic brush guards for wheel wells. Taped and screwed. Let sit 24 hrs.
No problem on either vehicles. Live in NY State

I agree with James and Jerry that this product doesn’t work as stated. It failed to bond body panels together. I left set up for 3days and when the screws holding the panels together were removed they pulled apart. Will be removing body panel and will be using 2 part adhesive that I should have done in the first place. This product has cost me time and extra money. It should not be sold as body adhesive.

Ted, I’m sorry to hear that you had problems with Silaprene. Did you contact us about it (other than this post)? I wonder if the tube you received was defective. We sell a lot of this product and get great feedback about it, but there’s always a chance of a bad batch.

holds well ,easy to work with

  13. Jerry Mackin

I agree with James. After almost 24 hrs, the Silaprene did not set up totally where I clamped it up. Outside the clamped up areas it set up as advertised. But what good does that do me? I don’t need a sealant as much as I need an adhesive. It seems like the Silaprene needs air to cure and the clamped areas don’t allow air to get in. I’ll be going back to 2 part Lord Fusor to attach panels. It’s more expensive but it works.

This stuff is terrible would not recommend !!! I have repaired many patch panels and this stuff doesn’t set up I had to apply heat to get it to set up after it being clamped for at least 8 hours. Go to API near you and get the 2 part epoxy sets quick and works great ! Silaprene should be discontinued.

James, sorry to hear that you had a negative experience with Silaprene. We sell a ton of it, and have used it ourselves, and have never had an issue with it setting up. It does take some time to set up, which is why we recommend clamping and letting set overnight. Air temperature and humidity levels can also affect set time. I’m wondering if maybe you received a bad tube. Even though we haven’t run across this yet, it’s always a possibility. If you didn’t do so, you could have contacted us and we would have sent you another tube to try

Great stuff and much easier to work with than epoxy. Can also put a nail in the tip and reuse a week later if necessary.

This stuff works really well and is easier to use than an epoxy. Used it on a slip-on rocker for my 99 Silverado. Spread it out and clamped the rocker in place overnight and it was good to go the next day.

Was looking for a quick way to attach a slip on rocker panel to help pass inspection. This did the job. Easy to use in a caulking gun.
